Soo Han is the Director of Orchestras, Department Chairman of the Performing Arts Department at Carmel High in Carmel, IN and is also a contributing editor for Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements for Strings.

Orchestras under his leadership experienced a great deal of success including 2006 through 2008 and 2010 through 2013 Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) State Championship.  The Carmel Symphony Orchestra was named Grand Champions at the 2009 National Orchestra Cup at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.  In 2009, Carmel High School Symphony Orchestra was also invited to perform at the Midwest International Music Clinic in Chicago, IL.

While the director at Carmel, the orchestra has performed all throughout the United States including performances tours of New York’s Alice Tully Hall, Chicago, and Los Angeles.  He has collaborated with numerous artists, groups, and conductors such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Rachel Barton-Pine, Larry Livingston, and Stephen Pratt.  He has produced with Carmel multiple recordings of complete symphonies, has commissioned and premiered several works for string and full orchestras, and has grown the program to over 325 string players and over 60 wind and percussionists spread out over six orchestras.

Prior to Carmel, he served as the Director of Orchestras at Munster High School (Munster, IN) and North Central High School (Indianapolis, IN) where programs and students achieved similar success.

Han has served as the conductor for New World Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and appeared as guest conductor and clinician for several orchestra festivals and youth orchestras around the country including Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region VI Orchestra, Central Washington University Orchestra Festival, University of Illinois High School Orchestra Festival, Texas Music Educators Association All-Region Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Youth Orchestra, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (Ill.), and Bands of American Summer Orchestra Symposium.  He has been a presenter at the Midwest International Music Clinic, Texas Orchestra Directors Association conference, Florida Music Educators Association Conference, Ohio Music Educators Association Conference, Indiana Music Educators Association Conference, and other state music teacher conferences/workshops.

He serves on committees and advisory board for Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Music Educators Association, and ISSMA.  He has published arrangements with Musica Propria.  He is a graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and is a bassist with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra.
